In the summer grass

Lying in the tall Vermont grass
In that first college summer
After stumbling from the dorms together
You, so fragile, that our kiss scared you
You said no and held me,
Tight and loose, worried
I might cast you off.
So we lay there together, tender,
Looking at the vast night sky
Stars, unlike my city life,
Stars that stretched with no end
And when our moment ended
I walked you home, hands entwined.

I hope you are well.
