Autumn breaks the horizon
With cool clean lines
And bright large-orbed dawns
Sea shell afternoons
Light fanning out behind
Layers of white and gray
Autumn breaks summer’s
Fresh and bold greens
With ruddy peaks
And yellow, gold and orange
Delicate locust leaves
Teetering over bumps
And blown into lumps
By moist breezes that refresh
With a coolness unfelt in an age
Autumn breaks with deep purple
Maple canopies bursting
With a ripeness of calm joy
Autumn breaks
With such beatific boldness
I clutch it to my heart
A lost love found again
Whose shared memories
Rush to fill life’s empty spaces
Autumn breaks and heals
