Dangerous Path

I did not follow the darkened way
Though its shade trees held appeal
The plateaus that were all arrayed
Along its route, ideal

I peered ahead along its road
The birds were sadly sitting
In shadows just so strong and bold
The dark was almost spitting

That aged path along a slope
That looped in falling low
I could not see or even hope
My feet refused to go

I cast off all my doubts and fears
Took another path so narrow
It climbed across gray rocks and sheers
That shook me to my marrow

It’s hard to know what bothered me
About that other way
This climb across the mountain’s lee
Has made this hike a day
