Natural Melodies

Reflected in this silver knife
A dim but focused purple light
Slicing through supernal space
Quickening a sleepy predawn pace

It burns without a flame or spark
The residue of night and dark
Releasing spirits of morning air
That cavort and cry without a care

I bid welcome to all this life
That slept hidden while I tossed in strife
With human frets of this and that
That heavy on my heart were sat

Hello hello cries the veery thrush
Brightening the quiet morning hush
With the sweetness of his treble cry
Before he wings goodbye goodbye

Bluejays greet with their gruff caws
Woodpeckers search with beak and pause
To grace me with a throated cheer
That sounds celestial to this ear

And so my long and troubled night
Has melted with these morning flights
And reminded me the world belongs
To light and natural melodies of song
