Sleeper

Cast the light into this room
That darkened in this morning lies
For though the windows should be bright
Shades obscure the hidden skies

And in this bleak and forlorn way
The sleeper struggles to awake
Her cries are muffled, her eyes do weep
Slight tremors through her body shake

Sleep is like another’s dream
That binds us to its downward march
And in its sweet alluring scheme
Our thirst for love is ever parched

So cast the light into this space
And shine it brightly so she sees
The shadows drawn upon her face
Can do nought be run and flee
