I was walking across the verdant lawn
When up my leg it flew
A graceful little butterfly
With spots of brown and blue
You may think it silly
To notice such a thing
But this world’s a little crazy
So I’ll enjoy its pretty wing
And while you all are fighting
About your thises and your thats
I’ll delight in earnest kisses
From my rover and my cat
And when your blood gets boiling
At some imagined new offense
Just recall the languor of an evening
Enjoyed without a harsh pretense
And if this isn’t something
That comes without a thought
I will shed a tear on your behalf
Because the crazies have you caught
