We were childhood buddies, carefree on the lam
We failed at our studies, got into some jams
We oogled the girls in denim stretched tight
And got into brawls with our close friends at night
We drove my old Chevy, in fast lanes for free
Our hearts were not heavy, we laughed you and me
We chugged on some beers, and went looking for fun
Cruisin’ the main street, when the night was still young
The world is cruel, it gets you down

When we sat on your floor, and talked picasso and beat
We knew there was more, like a fire sheds heat
We searched through our hearts, and penciled some words
You said living was art, and you would be heard
You were larger than life, with an appetite that big
You struggled with strife, on your personal dig
You were fearless and strong, quietly kind in your way
But life was not long, and it took you away
Sadness that day, she called with the news
An instant the future was covered in blue
An instant and I was smothered in blue
I will never forget, true friend of my youth
