The rain fell in torrents today
Fell so much deep puddles formed among
The still barren spring flower beds
So much the grass turned a deeper shade of green
Much deeper
Fell so much the birds sing louder
Now in the air’s silence
The evening’s quiet
Now in the ranging mists
Rising over far off fields
Obscuring trees I know and love
The rain fell today
And the earth’s thirst was quenched
