I Listen

A snowfall
Feathered flakes
A timeless sense
Of another time
Another place

Mother in the kitchen
Older brothers off somewhere
Doing older brother things
Friends snug in their homes
Perhaps with a wood fire
To blunt the cold drafts

The world is more compact
But limitless, fresher, mysterious, connected
A timeless sense
Of another time
The universe quivers
In the quiet chamber
Of my heart

And I listen

Snow falls
